Help is Always Free in SmallWorlds!
If someone wants you to pay for their help, they're trying to scam you. Move on to someone else. If you are stuck or need more information, just ask, "Can someone please help me?". There are plenty of genuine friendly citizens who will be happy to help you.
Beggars and Scammers
Sadly, there are some citizens who like to prey on new members. We call these folks 'Scammers'.
How to avoid being scammed
Don't "lend" members tokens or items if asked. In fact, don't give people tokens for any reason! You may get people 'begging' (asking you for tokens). The best strategy is to just ignore them; eventually they will give up and go away.
If you are buying items from a member, make sure the item has a "purchase" button on it. Do not buy something if the member says you have to pay them first and they will "gift" you the item.
Public spaces (Cue Club, The Island, Rachel's Tea Rooms - anything owned by someone with SmallWorlds as a surname) are FREE SPACES. Nobody works there, and you never need to pay to get in. If someone asks you for an entry fee to a public space, they are trying to scam you.
Never pay for a job! Often, if someone asks you to pay for a job it is a scam - you may pay the tokens and get booted.
Blocking and Reporting
If someone is begging or otherwise annoying you, you can block them or report them.
- Block them if they are annoying you but not breaking any SmallWorlds rules
- Report them if they are using foul language or breaking any other SmallWorlds rules.
Blocking An Avatar
When you block an avatar, you will not see them on your people and/or friends list. In addition, you will not see any chat from them or receive an emails from them.
First, search for the individual you want to block. If they are on your friends list, they will be easy to find. If they are not on your friends list, make sure you have the correct spelling of the name and use the search feature to find them. (Please note if you are not able to find them using the search button, they may have blocked you.)*
In the example above, you will see the player name (Cindy Sindy). Under her Homespace button, the first option is Block Avatar. Simply click the link to block the avatar.
The second option allows you to ban the avatar from your homespace. This stops them from entering it.
* Note: If you have noticed that the other player has blocked you, use a friend to help you find the avatar you want to block. If you click on the avatar in-world you will see a Block Avatar option.
Reporting An Avatar
If someone tries to scam you, you can report them. To report a user, click the wrench button for the user's avatar and choose Report User.
SmallWorlds Moderator Meta Morphosis has posted a great forum thread showing exactly how to report, complete with screenshots of every step.
