January 12 was the day that devastation was unleashed in Haiti. An earthquake registering magnitude 7 on the Richter scale - Haiti's strongest earthquake in more than two centuries rocked the Caribbean nation, causing dozens of buildings to collapse.  Here at SmallWorlds, we are deeply saddened by the almost unimaginable loss and trauma that has been experienced by Haiti. It is feared that the death toll will climb to over 100,000 people.

Calls for Help

"Port-au-Prince is devastated, lot of deaths. SOS. SOS...," wrote Louise Ivers, the clinical director of medical charity Partners In Health, in an e-mail to the group's offices in Boston, Massachusetts.She added: "Temporary field hospital ... needs supplies, pain meds, bandages. Please help us."

"I'm calling on all friends of Haiti and people who are listening to me to please come to our aid," Raymond Joseph, Haiti's ambassador to the U.S. told CNN by telephone. "The only thing I can do now is pray and hope for the best."

We'll be sending a check after a month's time to a relief agency chosen by the SmallWorlds community. There's a link to a poll below, so you can choose which agency you'd like the money sent to.

The I ♥ Haiti T-Shirt will be withdrawn from sale after a month's time. We'll then do a follow-up report on how much we raised, and let you know which relief agency the community has decided we should send the money to.
