Weekly Speed Painting Competition
I'm here to tell you about a new weekly event, the Speed Painting competition being run by Angel Yeppers-Dawg (member of MIB - Making it Better). It's only been running for two weeks, but it sounds like so much fun I felt I just had to let you know about it!
I guess a 'speed painting' competition is pretty self-explanatory really! You get 1 hour to paint a piece which is then judged by the Speed Painting competition judges. If you'd like to enter it might be a good idea to go with a plan, so you can get your piece finished in the 1 hour time frame... then again for some it might work better to just take the spontaneous approach and see what appears! Whichever creative pathway works for you, one this is for sure, you're bound to have a lot of fun! I had a short chat with Angel the other day. She shared some pictures with me from the last competition, as well sharing some more about the competition itself...
Me: Hi Angel - what a great idea for a competition! What inspired it and how long have you been running it so far?
Angel: We are just 2 weeks old, and the contest was actually inspired by MIB founder Big Dawg. He provided the seed idea, and the rest of the team thought the rest of the contest out and carried the idea through.
Me: Do you have a limit on number of participants?
Angel: We accept 15 members so that the judges can be in there too. It's been just great watching the competition entrants enjoy themselves - it's really fun! Here's a link to the competition space if anyone wants to come pay a visit!
Me: Do you have any specific categories you are judging? What about themes & prizes?
Angel: We decided to dispense with categories - it keeps it simple. we just select the winners by voting which ones we loved best! We have 3 judges: Jilly Silly, Hoofy Stalls and Myself. The one rule of the contest (outside of the time limit) is that only one person can paint per board. We do not allow any extra time. If we started at 4pm then we end at 5pm sharp. You can choose any theme or genre we only ask that you keep it original and not trace. The prizes are 1st prize 3,000 Gold, Second prize 2,000 Gold and 3rd prize 1,000 Gold.

Me: What's your personal interest in art, Angel? Are you an artist yourself?
Angel: I am no artist but I am well known around the art community. I purchase a ton of art from Itis Me and YourartistRob. I love the art community around Smallworlds. I've tried to paint on those boards and know that it is not easy. To see the beauty of what they came up with is amazing in my eyes.
Me: Whats been your personal favorite so far of the works that have been created?
Angel: I have to say that my personal favorite was painted by Chloe Theartist (the picture below). Bear in mind that the competition is very young, and that I'm really looking forward to seeing what others create in future weekly speed painting competitions!
Me: Thanks for your time Angel - it sounds like a great thing for SmallWorlds artists to check out. How do people enter?
Angel: The competition is run every Monday at 7pm SWT. We run it on a first come first served basis, so get in early if you want to be sure of a place! We post the advertisement in the competition and events section of the forum so keep a lookout!
