Salam Project: Support Peace in Sudan
I'm here to report on a fantastic project that we are very proud to have as a part of the SmallWorlds community - The Salam Project: Supporting Peace in Sudan.
The organisation from which the Salam project has grown is GlobalKids - an independent non-profit organization since 1993, whose mission is to educate and inspire urban youth to become successful students, global citizens and community leaders.

Project Salam has identified SmallWorlds as the perfect platform by which they can connect and communicate with their own global community of youth. They are holding a Project Kick-Off event on February 12th. If you are looking for a way to make a difference, stop by and see what Project Salam is all about!
The Feb 12th event will include a virtual presentation by Nisrin Elamin, a Sudanese peace activist, and two youth leaders, talking about their work to educate others about the conflict and support peace in Sudan. It will be held in the Salam Project space and there will be two sessions offered so more people can attend.
- Session 1: 4pm EST (5pm SWT)
- Session 2: 4pm PST (8pm SWT
What you will learn
In the session, Nisrin will give background information for Sudan and what has been taking place there. The two youth leaders will discuss the service learning projects they have done to support peace in Sudan and particularly, Darfur.
There will be opportunities to ask questions at the event. Project Salam offers you a real opportunity to be a part of the solution. Who knows, coming to this event may spark something within you; come along and find out!
Meet three of the The Lost Boys of Sudan
Project Salam will also be holding a special video simulcast of three of the "Lost Boys of Sudan" - Benjamin Ajak, Benson Deng and Alephonsion Deng. They will be leading a discussion at the NYLC service learning conference. You will have the opportunity to ask them questions during their session at the conference, which will be asked live on your behalf via a Project Salam moderator who will be physically at the conference.
The Lost Boys Event - March 26th, 9:00am PST
Want to get involved?
There's lots of work to do out there in the world, and Project Salam can help you make a difference. Best ways to learn if this is somewhere you would like to contribute:
- Attend the February 12th kick-off event, learn more about the situation in Sudan and ask questions about what they can do for this project
- Visit the Project Salam space in Smallworlds to learn more more about the project as well as seeing what other service-learning projects our members have been doing - there are plenty who have shared their experiences through video or photos in the space.
- Discuss these issues on the SmallWorlds forum
- Attend the March 26th video simulcast event happening live in the Project Salam space here on SmallWorlds, and meet three of Sudan's "Lost Boys".
