Foreign Language Missions
by Mangoloo Lala
¿Has jugado una misión en español?
Are you staring at the heading above, wondering "What does that say?!"? Well I would too if I hadn't looked it up!
It's the Spanish phrase for "Have you ever played a mission in Spanish?". How would you answer that question? What if I asked you have you ever played a mission in a language other then the one you were born with? Some people may say "no" but there are quite a bunch that would say "yes"! Maybe you want to play one but can never find one!
Therefore, I have been investigating who, what, and where these missions or players are. Just think of this specific article as your personal travel guide to missions in foreign languages!
The Players
There are about 2 million citizens that call SmallWorlds their home so it's hard to not come across someone who speaks a different language! But what about missions in languages other than English, find any of those? Most people I have talked to say that those types of missions are rare to come across since about 60% of all the citizens in SmallWorlds are from the US!So that leaves the rest of the 40% to the citizens from other countries, including Portuguese, French, Canadian, the list goes on and on! But where are all the missions in other languages... they must be out of sight because I am certainly having a hard time finding one!
I got a chance to talk to a bunch of non-English speakers about missions. Most of them have a hard time understanding the missions in English but still do at least one mission a day for their loyalty challenge. A few that I talked to actually knew a few good missions that are in their native language, so we know they are out there!
Interview with Dutch Maxi

I was very fortunate to meet a great mission maker/player who speaks Dutch as well as English! I decided to ask her a few questions on this topic of missions in foreign languages. So here is how the interview went...
Me: "How many languages can you speak/read? And what are they?"
Dutch: "I speak and write Dutch, of course cause its my mother language. I also speak and write English, well you can be the judge of that, lol! I speak and write French and German but not fluently. I speak and write a little Spanish that is all nothing special"
Me: "Wow thats a lot of languages! Do you find it hard to play missions that are in English?"
Dutch: "Nope, I love them cause since I now live in the US, I found out I am not that perfect in the English language since people use words I have never heard of and I have to look it up to complete a task."
Me: "Do you have any missions that are in any language other than English? If so what are they called?
Dutch: "I have a few simple missions called Dutch Part 1, Dutch Part 2, French Part 1 and German Part 1. The missions teach phrases such as goodmorning, hello, do you want to have breakfast with me. I am planning to make a few more but I am working on a mission since 4 weeks and I want to finish that one first."
Me: "I remember playing those missions, very good and I'd love to have breakfast with you! LOL! Have you played any missions that were in your mother language?"
Dutch: "Nope, I think I never saw one or didn't really search for it but it would be great to make one in Dutch although I have the feeling not a lot of people would finish it cause they would have a hard time understanding if I don't translate it."
Me: "Lol very true. How often do you see someone who speaks another language other then english?"
Dutch: "I meet a lot of people on SW who speak Spanish and I must say lately I met some people from the Netherlands and of course that has to do with my name, Dutch, and Maxi is a short name of the future queen of the Netherlands, Maxima."
Me: "What is your opinion on featured missions in foregin languages?"
Dutch: "A great idea but that is because i am Dutch, of course. I think people might learn something if they want to and it challenges people from other countries to join SmallWorlds and make missions too!""
Me: "Any mission making tips?"
Dutch: "We should have some easy ones for beginners cause when I came to SmallWorlds, I was completely lost! It would be great if we could help others play/make missions because if they are stuck they might give up. I was about to give up but because of people like you, Kissy My and a lot of, well... you know who I mean. I stayed and I love SmallWorlds now!"

"Doeii" means "Goodbye" in Dutch!
Missions Not Only in English
I have been on the look out for missions that are in languages other then English. It was tricky to come across some since there are way more missions in English then any other language. Luckily I had help from friends. Therefore, I would like to present to you this small list of missions that were discovered!
• Happy's Island Tour - Happy Guest (Portuguese)
• Coca Cola Stand - Ting Keting (Serbian)
• Mesozoic Park - Duchess Bean (Spanish)
• Our Island Mission - Diego Saul (Spanish)
• Island of Castles - Rubi Green (Spanish)
• Harry Potter - Rebekah Leigh (French, German, Italian, and Spanish)
• Dutch Mission (Nederlands) - Dutch Maxi (Dutch)
Hub Shoutout!
Not only did I find individual missions... but I found a hub, called "Misiones en Espanol" made by one of our Spanish speaking citizens, Rubi Green! The room has many missions for all you espanol people, six of which are translated featured missions. The hub also includes how tos which are translated in Spanish. Now that is VERY impressive and I am positive it will help any Spanish speakers with any questions they have! Don't forget to stop by and have a peek at it... especially if you speak Spanish!
Thank you for taking the time to read this article... lol you guys make it look easy! But I did have fun with it! Thank you M&M crew and the Mission Swappers for helping me find the missions. And a special thanks to Diego Saul and Rubi Green for being my espanol buddies! To my buddy Dutch... thank you for letting me get the chance to interview you! And I can't forget to thank Mappley Cat (my sister) for making the header! You guys rock!
